Big Mike's Soul Food

  16th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach

A modern local favorite, Big Mike’s Soul Food serves up hearty, traditional Southern dishes in a warm, no-frills setting. Known for its fried chicken, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese, the restaurant has become a staple in Myrtle Beach’s culinary scene.

While not historically connected to Charlie’s Place, Big Mike’s represents the lasting legacy of Black-owned food establishments that provide both nourishment and a deep sense of community.

Owner and operator Mike Chestnut is a respected figure in the area—not only for his food, but for his advocacy. He played a pivotal role in stopping the demolition of Charlie Fitzgerald’s historic hotel building, helping ensure that this vital piece of Black cultural history is still standing today.

Big Mike’s continues the tradition of soul food as a cultural anchor—a place where stories are shared, memories are made, and history is preserved with every bite.“
